 Changes Coming to the Office

As you might have heard or read in the spring newsletter, Evan Divine has left the NRCS to start a barn reclamation business. Evan was a great asset to the office and community and will be missed. We all wish him good luck on his new adventure. Lori Divine will be the Acting District Conservationist in Franklin County. Lori has been with NRCS for 5 years and is currently a Soil Conservationist in the Connersville office. Lori has also been assisting in the Richmond office for the past year and will continue to work out of that office a couple days a week. However, Lori plans on spending a majority of her time in the Franklin County office in Brookville. Also Chris Fox, SWCD Coordinator, will be taking an educational leave of absence beginning on March 27 until mid-July. During his leave the SWCD Board, FSA, NRCS and ISDA are going to pitch in to help keep the office running. During this transition period staffing maybe be limited so please leave a message either on the voicemail or with the FSA staff and someone will get back with you. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

WHITEWATER RIVER WATERSHED PROJECT

The Whitewater River Watershed project received $200,000 to provide a 70% cost-share on best management practices (BMP's) that will help improve the water quality of the Whitewater River. Examples of BMP's that may be eligible for cost-share are: cover crops, filter strips, grassed waterways, heavy use area protection, riparian buffers, prescribed grazing, watering facility and many more. In order to be eligible the land must be located within the Whitewater River Watershed project boundaries. A field visit will be conducted by the Watershed Coordinator to determine eligibility. Property that falls within the "High" priority areas and has a high ranking will be funded first. If money is still available, landowners located in the "Medium" priority areas will be eligible for funding in the summer of 2018. Cost-share funds will be available until February 2020 or when all money is allocated. Each applicant may receive up to a maximum of $8,000. All practices must be completed according to NRCS specifications. If you are interested in the cost-share program please contact Heather Wirth, Watershed Coordinator at heather.wirth@in.nacdnet.net or the Franklin County SWCD office.
